20 Weeks-- Halfway!

Well, we have made it to the halfway point! I really can't believe that I am this far along. It is surreal.  The farther along we get in this pregnancy the faster it seems to get.  It seems to follow the summer break rule--- the older you get the faster summers fly by.

How far along: 20 weeks
Total Weight Gain: Still down about 5 pounds
Maternity Clothes: Yes! except for summer dresses that are loose.
Sleep: I am getting up several times a night to use the restroom.  I usually fall back asleep pretty quickly.
Best Moment of the Week: Seeing our sweet BOY on the ultrasound screen again.
Movement: Yes, there are two distinct movements I feel.... a rolling movement, as if he is rolling over from one sleeping position to another-- and then a punch/kick/karate chop motion that I am sure others could feel if I could predict his little motions.
Food Cravings: No real cravings-- although a little dessert each night is becoming a trend.
Symptoms:I am having some backaches, but who knows...this could be from old cheerleading injuries!!!

18 Weeks

We are almost half-way through this pregnancy.  That is crazy to me!  I do feel like I have been pregnant for a long time... I'm sure that has something to do with knowing almost instantly whether your fertility treatment worked or not! We are once again so thankful to have made it this far in our journey and pray continuously for our precious baby!

How far along: 18 weeks
Total Weight Gain: Still down about 7 pounds
Maternity Clothes: Honestly, this week I haven't tried any non-maternity item other than t-shirts and summer dresses, so I am not sure if anything pre-pregnancy, that buttons, still fits.
Sleep: I am tossing and turning throughout the night.  I wonder if it is because I am paranoid about sleeping on my back?!?  I wake up and roll over several times.
Best Moment of the Week: The best moment this week was the fact that SCHOOL'S OUT FOR SUMMER BREAK !!!
Movement: I am feeling something "funny" when I lay down flat.  I am guessing that it is our little baby.  I am sure pretty soon it will be unmistakeable.
Food Cravings: Does "I want a waffle" count as a craving?  This was my statement to Jim last night.  So what did we do?  We hopped in the car and went to waffle house.
Symptoms: None really.  Thankful the worst part of nausea and night sickness have seemed to pass.  Also thankful I have found some new energy throughout the day (although I am still ready to crash at bedtime!)

Week 16

How far along: 16 weeks
Total Weight Gain: Down about 7 pounds
Maternity Clothes: Loose summer dresses are my favorite item at the moment!!!  I still have a couple pair of jeans that fit and a few more that fit with a good 'ol Bella Band!  But, I am wearing maternity clothes (especially pants) more often.
Sleep: I am still getting up to use the restroom at least twice a night (will that last all pregnancy?!?).  When I am asleep, I am sleeping well.
Best Moment of the Week: We got an extra sneak peek at our little one this week because my doctor wanted to do a weight check on me.  Last week at my regularly scheduled appointment (at 15 weeks) my doctor wasn't too happy that I was still losing weight.  She wanted to check again today... and I am pleased to announce I have gained 1/2 a pound.  (at least I didn't lose anymore!) I am still baffled by the fact that I was loosing weight, yet still really starting to show?!? Hmmm... such a mystery...
Movement: Hopefully soon... our sweet baby was moving and grooving on the ultrasound screen today!
Food Cravings: No real cravings, but I am pleased to announce I am eating much better.
Symptoms: I have not taken Zofran in almost 2 weeks!!!! This is a HUGE accomplishment.  I am so thankful I am feeling better!!!  Just in time to wrap up the school year and start thinking about decorating the nursery!

Mother's Day

This day came with a lot of emotions for me.  I am obviously thrilled to be able to celebrate this year, with Jim and my family, the fact that we will have a baby in November...but there are other emotions that flooded this day as well.

Last year, Mother's Day wasn't a joyous one.  About a month earlier, I had just had my first miscarriage. I was angry that the Lord would allow that loss and while I knew all the right "church" answers-- you know the ones: The Lord still has a plan, He is not surprised by the loss of the baby, God is in control, He is the Sovereign Lord--it did not make that time any easier.  I didn't have a baby in my belly or on Earth.  I had one in Heaven.  Did this make me a mother or not? Was I allowed to celebrate this day or not? I didn't know. My family didn't know. It was a new experience for us all and we all just kind of pushed through the motions of Mother's Day, not mentioning much about me or the baby.  It was a tough day.

I remember not wanting to hide from church on that day but also not wanting to attend that day.  Not many people knew about our loss at that point because not many people knew we were expecting.  I sat through that service trying to hide the tears that were streaming down my face.

This year, while I was excited to celebrate-- I was also remembering the emotions I felt last year.  Jim and I have now lost 3 babies and so while today is a happy one-- one of excitement and anticipation, it is also a time that I remember our babies that are in Heaven.

I also am heartbroken for people who long to be mothers (and fathers) but only see a negative pregnancy test each month.  Jim and I have a special connection to families like this.  We know what that's like and we know the heartache that comes with that.  I am heartbroken for those mothers (and fathers) who have lost babies before they ever got a chance to see them. Especially for those parents who have yet to have the good news that we have had.  I know the hopelessness that is there in that time of loss and all you wonder is if you will ever get pregnant again...and stay pregnant.  I prayed specifically for these families today because Jim and I have been there.  We know the emotions, we know the heartache... but thankfully, we know the joy that there can be.

My sister-in-law, who had been through most of the same struggles I had been through, gave me the best piece of encouragement as I was waiting my time of joy--- she said "If the Lord has put the desire in your heart to be a mother, He will fulfill that desire".  At the time I didn't "buy in" to the words of encouragement fully, especially after the second and third miscarriage, but I can see the truth she spoke to me now.  I just wish I would have rested in that truth earlier.

So, here is my encouragement to anyone who might have had a less than joyous Mother's Day--- I will give the same encouragement that my sister-in-law gave to me.  If the Lord has given you the desire to be a mother---He will fulfill that desire.  We might not know what it will look like, and we definitely won't know what bumps and twists that the path will toss at us, but He will fulfill the desire in you.  Be encouraged through the sadness and know that while you might feel so alone in this season you are in---there are others that can relate to your feelings! Be encouraged. You are not alone!

Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.- Psalm 37:4

Week 14

We are thankful for another week of pregnancy!  Here is my 14 week update!
How far along: 14 weeks
Total Weight Gain: Still down about 8 pounds
Maternity Clothes: While I can still fit into most my jeans (my khakis are a different story), I would much rather wear maternity pants.  Since the weather has been warmer I have been wearing my regular dresses and skirts too.  Mom and Kenny were in town this weekend, and mom and I shopped for few more essential maternity bottoms--- which I am looking forward to wearing.
Sleep: I wake up about twice to use the restroom during the night.  I find myself tossing and turning more throughout the night, although I can't really complain about the sleep I am getting.
Best Moment of the Week: Jim got a promotion at work! I am so proud of him!!!
Movement: Too early to feel.
Food Cravings:I don't have any cravings, although I have been able to eat more this week than the past 8 weeks or so.
Symptoms: I have been feeling better this week.  I hope I am rounding a curve! A few nights I have felt a tad icky after eating, but for the most part I have been eating more and keeping it down (which is a milestone!) Other than that, I feel great.  I am not as tired as I have been when I get home from work, although by 9:30 I am calling it a night (which is rare for this night owl).

12 weeks

Each week day we have been pregnant has been such a blessing, but when we reached the infamous 12 week mark we felt like we accomplished the greatest feat ever! (If you missed our journey to pregnancy, click HERE)
Here's what's going on with me and the little baby this week (which we are calling Baby Nemo until we know the gender).

How far along: 12 weeks
Total Weight Gain: I'm not sure how I feel about this question, so it might not last, but for now I don't mind sharing since I am down about 8 pounds.
Maternity Clothes: I have worn my maternity jeans a couple times...and maternity leggings are just about the best invention ever-- but I am still mainly in my regular clothes (although by the time I get home from work I can't get into my PJ's fast enough!)
Sleep: I am asleep within seconds of my head hitting the pillow. I have been going to bed before the sun sets all the way--- I just can't stay awake any longer! I am waking up about 2 times a night to use the restroom.
Best Moment of the Week: Getting to see the little one on the ultrasound screen again! (After not being able to find the heartbeat with the Doppler...talk about scaring a momma and daddy... we were able to have another ultrasound! This makes number 4!) The ultrasound tech found the baby immediately, but then it moved off the screen, so she moved the wand around my belly some more and there it was again for a brief second...she said "no wonder the Doppler didn't pick up a heartbeat, your baby is moving around like crazy!" The baby finally stayed still for a few moments while we soaked it all in, again!
Movement: Too early to feel... although we know it's moving around!!!
Food Cravings: Food? Blech--- Nothing sounds remotely good.
Symptoms: Still feeling sick toward 5:00 in the evening. I am still taking a Zofran about that time each day in hopes I might be able to eat a little for dinner. Some days it is successful, some days---notsomuch. I am making it through the school day with more energy, although I still crash at night!

Here are the pictures we have taken so far
